River Oaks is a fairly new Oakville neighbourhood. Most of its buildings were built from the late 1980s to the early 2000s and there is even some ongoing development. The neighbourhood was built with medium density and the majority of detached houses have average lot sizes between 35 and 50sq ft.
Certain areas have a very distinct building style which was influenced by urban design principles. You can easily recognize them by the 3 storey houses or townhomes with double car garages facing the back.
Although, if this does not suit you there are many traditional 2- storey detached, semi-detached and townhomes. Also, there is a number of condo apartment buildings for modest budgets.

While it is a very stylish neighbourhood, there’s more to River Oaks than looks. It has plenty to offer in terms of recreation and convenience.
Just a short drive away is the River Oaks Community Centre with a Mature Adults Club where you have access to a number of programs and wellness facilities. It’s a great way for people of any age to stay active and healthy.
Nature is also very accessible due to the great number of trails and parks. The most extensive trail systems are the Nipigon trails and along Munn’s Creek. The whole neighbourhood has lots of greenery and mature trees, parks with playgrounds, splash pads, and all kinds of sports fields.
Shopping and Restaurants
Being close to the parks and trails, however, doesn’t mean that you will be far from civilization as there are plenty of restaurants and shops in the area. The uptown core area is very convenient for its Superstore/Walmart/HomeSense plazas with a multitude of modern offices, small shops, and almost every bank branch.
For lovers of homemade Ukrainian food, the Terrace Take-Away will prepare varenyky, cabbage rolls, or Kyiv cutlets. Then, your order will be ready to pick up at the St.Joseph Ukrainian Catholic Church.
Schools In River Oaks
For catholic students, the well-ranked Catholic Holy Trinity School is in the neighbourhood. Alternatively, nearby is the White Oaks High School with an IB program and a wide variety of apprenticeship programs.
The River Oaks neighbourhood is located within Sixteen Mile Creek, Dundas, Upper Middle Road, and Trafalgar Road. For commuters, Oakville GO station, the 407 and 403/QEW are very close which make for a quick and convenient trip out of town.
